Your guide to our modular homes
Everything you need to know about how we use MMC to create better homes for all
There’s nothing wrong with the old way of building homes. The problem is, we’ve been building houses in the same way, using the same techniques, and same old thinking for far too long.
Modern methods of construction question tradition, lead with innovation, and utilise new developments, discoveries, techniques, and materials, to create better quality homes for all. Homes that are modern and reliable, that last a lifetime, and promote lifestyle benefits that traditional housing will never be able to facilitate.
How do we build our modular homes?
Our homes are made by the skilful team at our House Factory in Derbyshire.
Here’s how it works:
— The production line starts with the construction of the floors, walls, and ceiling – and roof if it’s a top floor – to form one individual module (or one storey).
— Bathrooms, built as pods on a separate production line, are then installed where applicable.
— Next, the module moves around the factory where plumbing, electrics, windows and doors are added.
— If it’s a module that requires a kitchen, this is then built in, and the whole unit is given a lick of paint.
— The module undergoes a mere 3,383 quality control checks before it’s approved to be delivered to the neighbourhood.
— The entire process is repeated to create the number of modules needed for each specific delivery.
— On-site, where the foundations have already been built by our on-site construction team, the delivered modules are craned into place to form each home.
What are our modular homes made of?
Our modular homes are built using similar materials to the ones used for a site build – materials like plasterboard, timber, and brick (for the external finishes).
On the walls, we use high-density plasterboard that offers far superior noise insulation and heat retention than regular plasterboard.
When you bang a nail into it, it feels exactly the same as it would with a wall from a traditional build.
The wiring and timber frame are no different from a traditional build either, and we use high performance finishes in crucial areas that require greater durability or strength.
All materials we use conform to the highest UK fire and safety checks.
