Planning permission granted to House by Urban Splash for final homes at New Islington

    06 March 2020

Award winning modular housing concept House by Urban Splash has this week gained planning permission for the last phase of new homes at New Islington.

Approved plans include 34 three storey Town House homes and two Mansion House apartment blocks which will contain 60 apartments – all built using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). Mansion House will also offer commercial space on the ground floor and will face on to New Islington marina and Cotton Field Park.

Town House is a stunning 139 sq m, three story home that can be configured by the customer to their own design. The home is then built off-site at the House factory in the East Midlands and delivered to New Islington, creating minimum disruption for existing residents as well as significantly reducing waste and carbon in comparison to traditional construction.

Town House homes have already sold out at Irwell Riverside in Salford and Smith’s Dock in North Shield’s and are proving extremely popular with buyers who are looking for a forever home in the city, with parking and outdoor space within a real neighborhood with character.

Mansion House apartments also offer a range of layouts for the buyer to choose from, offering one or two bedrooms with several different options for the kitchen and bathroom enabling customers to configure their own dream home. These ‘flat pack’ homes are built using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), with the timber panels delivered to site and then put together by a small team of contractors.

Mansion House apartments are House by Urban Splash’s most sustainable homes to date, offering the chance for buyers to own a really unique apartment with exposed timber walls and stunning views across New Islington Marina and Manchester city centre.

Not long ago New Islington was a rundown area with poorly designed housing stock. It has been transformed thanks to the creation of hundreds of mixed tenure homes by Urban Splash, vast public space in the Marina and park, a health centre, nursery, workspaces – including the iconic Stubbs Mill, the New Islington Metrolink and the OFSTED outstanding New Islington Free School.

Tom Bloxham, Chairman of Urban Splash, explained: “New Islington has been over 20 years in the making and it is now a multi-award winning neighbourhood. We’re proud the neighbourhood is thriving with a great mixed tenure community living side-by-side in apartments both rented and owned, alongside the new houses built for the original council tenants. The community also benefits from a school, park, its very own marina, plus the popular Pollen Bakery and Cask bar. We are delighted to have received planning for further House by Urban Splash town houses and Mansion House apartments, which are the final piece in the New Islington Jigsaw.”

The new phase of properties at New Islington will be released for sale imminently and interest can be registered here: https://ec2-63-34-210-119.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com/regeneration/projects/new-islington
