Garden Philosophy part 3: Five feel good ideas to transform your terrace

09 April 2022

From garden pubs to intimate rooftop nooks – get inspired with these mood-boosting ideas for your private terrace

For the first instalment of our Garden Philosophy blog series, you learnt how to make the most out of your garden’s aspect.

For the second, you were introduced to the Japanese landscaping concept, ‘gohon no ki’ (meaning ‘five trees’, three for the birds and two for the butterflies).

Now, for part three, we’re back to explore the idea of extending wellness at home from inside, out.

Each House by Urban Splash home is designed with a private garden terrace – here are 5 feel good ideas for yours.

Enjoy breakfast and a breath of fresh air on the terrace

01 –– The al fresco breakfast spot

Start your day with a good breakfast and a breath of fresh air.

Adding a picnic bench to your terrace – like this Jennifer Newman bench we featured at one of our New Islington Town House homes – gives you the daily opportunity for al fresco dining (if the British weather allows).

Frequently connecting with the outdoors is a great way to boost your mood and improve your overall well-being.

02 –– The garden pub

Product design manager, Hiromitsu Abe, from our partners, Sekisui House, sketched an idea for life on the terrace during spring and summer.

His concept was a ‘garden pub’ featuring a stylish bar area, a row of benches, and a potted tree for shade on sunny days.

This terrace – leading out onto the residents’ garden – is transformed into an exciting social spot for friends and family to enjoy during the weekends (whether there’s an occasion to celebrate or not).

Use your terrace as yoga warm-up zone and then enjoy a run around your beautiful, green neighbourhood

03 –– The yoga terrace

Don’t fancy going to the gym today?

Pull up an exercise mat and practice your Lotus, Baby Cobra, and Downward Dog in peace and quiet outside.

Use this spot as a warm-up zone, then put on your running shoes and go and explore your beautiful, green neighbourhood.

04 –– The flexible living space extension

On warmer days, throw open your floor-to-ceiling patio doors and extend your open-plan living space, out.

It’s a great way to utilise your home’s entire ground floor while still feeling connected to your loved ones (no matter whether they are on the ground floor).

Work from home on a cushioned outdoor bench while watching your little ones play inside, or prepare dinner while still being part of the conversation whether your guests are seated at the dining table or out on the terrace.

Settle down for a night under the stars on your private rooftop terrace at East Float

05 – The intimate rooftop nook

Your terrace doesn’t have to be a sociable spot open to all – it can be a quiet and intimate place of serenity.

A selection of Row House homes at East Float, Wirral Waters, feature an impressive, private rooftop terrace.

Add comfortable garden furniture like a hanging egg chair or a hammock, hang fairy lights to set the mood, and cosy up with a blanket, a good book, and a glass of wine for a night to yourself under the stars.
